Disneyland is a wonderful place for engagement photos. At the turn of every corner, you find new textures, backgrounds, and colors to play with., Because of the diversity and endless options in the park-no e-shoot ever turns out the same. The only downside, is there’s never enough time to hit everything in one photo session. Here’s a guide to help you narrow down ideas, so that your Disneyland Engagement photos will be a perfect reflection of you and your other half.

For a Modern or Edgy Couple:

If it’s a touch of drama you want to portray in your images, you’re going to want to head over to the park a few hours before sunset. This way, you can get some photos in the sun, but also take advantage of dramatic lighting in Tomorrowland or the Mad Tea Party before the sun begins to set. Tomorrowland is full of Rich Blues and Silvers, and the Mad Tea Party has very dramatic lighting that is fun to use in any photos. Once the lights turn out, take advantage of the World of Color over at the backside of Paradise Pier or the pin lighting in the Animation Building.

For the Playful Couple:

Toontown, Teacups, Bugs Land, The Challenge Trail, and Mainstreet are great options for playful couples who love to laugh. These locations have lots of great rides, props, and opportunities for photos that will show you interacting and enjoying each others company. Everything from silly hats, funny cars, and Mainstreet Balloons, will lighten the mood and make for some great photo opportunities.

For Fans of all things Whimsy:

Fantasyland is my favorite whimsy location, especially when the sun begins to set and there is a beautiful gold glow around the carousel. Nothing is more whimsical than a carousel ride with a glimpse of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle in the background. Snow White’s Wishing Well is also a beautiful location for some whimsical photos, as well as Paradise Pier, and Fantasy Faire.

For Romantic Souls:

What can be more romantic than New Orleans Square? The details in the shop windows, the Court of Angels, and the Mark Twain River Boat are just a quick step across the way. I’m usually a fan of evening light, but the Court of Angels is unique in that it is actually better to photograph in the morning. The golden hour is blocked a bit from the way the buildings are positioned, so I would suggest if you have an evening shoot, to arrive early, or before the sun begins to set so that you can use the sunset over towards the Mark Twain. Other romantic locations are Buena Vista Street, and the walkway from Fantasyland to Big Thunder Mountain.

For Those of you who live in the past but are planning for the future: 😉

I love taking Retro Themed photos in the park. There are so many great locations for this. If you’re in Disneyland, my favorite spots are Main Street and older areas of Tomorrowland, like Autopia. At Disneyland, I try to stick with rides that have have been around for a while (i.e. Storybook and Matterhorn). Some other great areas are Buena Vista Street, Carthay Circle, Hollywood, and Cars Land.

Rustic and Down To Earth:

There are some really great areas for couples that are a little more rustic. Frontierland and Critter Country are obvious choices, but my favorite areas by far are Tom Sawyer’s Island and Cars Land. Tom Sawyer’s Island is just beautiful, and it has a lot of forgotten areas, cute signs, and bridges to explore. Cars Land is rich with details and the colors are perfect. Another area that is often forgotten, is the Challenge Trail and the waterfalls by Grizzly Rapids.

For My Fellow Star Wars Fans:

Of course, you’re going to want to stick to Tomorrow Land. And grab me a lightsaber while you’re there, will ya?

I hope that helps! Please remember that if you are ever taking photos in the park, to always be polite and conscious of the guests are are enjoying their day at Disneyland, and of course, have a wonderful time and get some gorgeous photos being happy at the happiest place on earth. 🙂

  1. I love these engagements so much! I am getting engaged soon, and would love to take my engagement pictures at Disneyland! I just have a few questions, and hopeful you can answer them! First, do you have to have permission to take the pictures, if they are going to be sent out in your invitations? Is there a fee to take these pictures, if you are going to use them as your invite pictures?
    Thanks so much!
